Services

If the financial counsellor determines that the assistance required is consistent with our mandate in this area, then the services will include:

Remedial Counselling Services

Remedial counselling is the provision of direct assistance to a client and his family experiencing financial distress. Financial distress is defined to mean that the client is unable to meet his current financial responsibilities from current financial resources (negative cash flow). The remedial counselling process will involve meeting with clients and their spouses to obtain all necessary information, defining nature and scope of the problem, developing an action plan to rectify the situation and directly assisting the client with the implementation of the plan. The remedial counselling process will be provided on a referral or on a voluntary basis.

Preventive Counselling Services

Preventive counselling is defined to mean generally a three to six month follow-up and review period with a client, once the remedial counselling has been completed. This process will involve ongoing communication with the client to reinforce the principles of sound personal financial management and to offer assistance. The objective of preventive counselling is to prevent reoccurrence of remedial counselling and to assist the client in achieving long term financial stability.

Termination of Services

Counselling services will be completed at the end of the preventive services period or when the financial counsellor concludes that SISIP FS are unable to further assist a client.

Informative Counselling

Informative counselling is defined as offering personal financial education and information sessions on topics related to personal financial management. These sessions will cover topics of interest to the audience and/or the requesting agencies but will generally focus on CFPAF programs, budgeting and credit. Timings of these sessions will be coordinated with the unit to achieve benefit for the participants.

Terms and Conditions

SISIP FS will provide financial counselling services at no cost to clients, subject to reasonable notice, and the availability of resources. SISIP FS reserves the right to change these terms and conditions at any time without notice.
