So, another year has almost gone, and it's that festive time
of the year. Christmas!
This being
the season of giving, there are multitudes of people out there
right now who are doing just that. If you don't know how much
you can afford to spend, and spend indiscriminately, then chances
are you will probably start the New Year in a very precarious
financial state.
During the past 12 months, SISIP Financial Counsellors have provided
individual financial counselling to CF personnel and their spouses,
and given group presentations to over 7000 military and civilian
personnel.
Many people who come for guidance have no idea how much money
they spend on expenses and debts. If you have any doubts as to
how and where your money is being spent, a monthly budget is the
best way to ensure that you only spend what you plan to when you
go out. A SISIP Financial Counsellor would be happy to offer you
free and confidential assistance. They are trained and they have
a great deal of experience to help you produce a more accurate
budget than you probably could on your own. How many people remember
to budget for items such as pet supplies, Internet fees, banking
charges, and even their kids' weekly allowances?
The situations that Financial Counsellors deal with are as diverse
as the people themselves. However, it doesn't take long to read
the tea leaves and pick up on some trends that are worthwhile
mentioning as a warning.
At the very least, and for the sake of an hour or two, a SISIP
Financial Counsellor can show you on paper where you stand financially.
Knowing what you can afford and what you are willing to pay for
something will help you to curb any excess spending.
If you are doing your Christmas shopping, or any shopping for
that matter, a recent SISIP Financial Counselling article entitled
Tips and
Traps on Credit Use, refers to the many hazards of credit,
and its use.
Remember, the bills will still be there long after the thrill
of giving and receiving has gone.
Merry
Christmas - Joyeux Noël!
